You Own Your Origin Story: Building Confidence, Clarity, and Connection with David Aron

You Own Your Origin Story is an interactive, story-driven session that helps mentors and mentees understand how their personal experiences (successes and setbacks) shape confidence, motivation, and professional identity. Participants will learn how to identify their superpower portfolios and translate lived experiences into strengths, communicating their origin stories clearly in professional and social conversations.

In this session, mentees gain tools to articulate who they are, what they’re working toward, and how to ask for meaningful guidance. Mentors gain insight into how to listen for key elements in origin stories, ask better questions, and support mentees in reframing challenges as sources of growth and capability. The result is more authentic, productive, and impactful mentoring relationships.

Meet David Aron

David Aron is an educator, author, and speaker who helps first-generation students and emerging leaders turn lived experience into confidence, clarity, and momentum. He is the creator of You Own Your Origin Story (YOYOS), a powerful workshop that reframes background, struggle, and identity as strategic assets rather than barriers. Drawing on research, storytelling, and his experience as a marketing professor, David empowers participants to claim agency over their narratives and design futures on their own terms. He has shared YOYOS with mentoring organizations, universities, and international academic audiences, and is excited to bring this work to the Real Mentors community this February.
