You Own Your Origin Story, Part 2: Using Story to Strengthen Mentoring Relationships with David Aron
Building on the foundation of You Own Your Origin Story, this interactive session explores what happens after you discover your story: how you use it to create stronger, more meaningful mentoring relationships.
Led by educator, author, and speaker David Aron, this workshop focuses on how mentors and mentees can use storytelling to build trust, deepen understanding, and foster more authentic conversations. Participants will learn how to recognize the stories that shape their perspectives, communicate with greater intention, and create space for curiosity, connection, and growth.
Mentees will develop strategies for sharing their experiences in ways that strengthen relationships, clarify goals, and invite meaningful support. Mentors will learn how to listen beyond the surface, ask thoughtful questions, and help mentees uncover the strengths and possibilities within their own stories.
Together, participants will explore how storytelling becomes more than a reflection on the past. It becomes a practical tool for building confidence, strengthening communication, and creating mentoring relationships that have a lasting impact.
Meet David Aron
David Aron is an educator, author, and speaker who helps first-generation students and emerging leaders turn lived experience into confidence, clarity, and momentum. He is the creator of You Own Your Origin Story (YOYOS), a powerful workshop that reframes background, struggle, and identity as strategic assets rather than barriers. Drawing on research, storytelling, and his experience as a marketing professor, David empowers participants to claim agency over their narratives and design futures on their own terms. He has shared YOYOS with mentoring organizations, universities, and international academic audiences, and is excited to bring this work to the Real Mentors community this February.
